Enhancing Rigid Tape To Outcompete The Field
Customer was creating a new product for their existing product line - a rigid tape to compete with a global conglomerate in drug stores.
We developed the tape, sourced a blister packer and launched the product rapidly. 5 years after launch, we developed an entirely new tape with poly cotton fabric at lower cost. 10 years after launch we secured agreements within the supply chain to reduce the final delivered roll cost to the customer.
Arrowhead was able to deliver a competitive product at a price that stayed competitive in a crowded consumer marketplace. This supported 14% compounded annual growth over the first 10 years of the project, and continues to drive profitable growth today.
New Private Label Stretch Tape
Global distributor desired a private label stretch tape product made with fabrics from their sister company.
We worked with the sister company to finalize fabric specifications.
Our knowledge and stretch tape coating and slitting capacity allowed us to guide the distributor through the process and successfully launch their tapes. This product line has since shown over 20% annualized growth over the past 10 years.
Customized Porous Athletic Tape
A major US distributor was seeking a porous athletic tape with a specific performance spec
We designed and built a machine to emboss the porous pattern in the adhesive to consistently meet the customer specifications
The new construction was approved and sold globally with the collaborator, providing a unique product performance profile that was differentiated in the marketplace
Customizing Product Line Extension for European Markets
A US distributor required a specific, high tack tape for the European tape market.
We developed a brand new line of tape by sourcing a very high tack adhesive and combining it with a strong poly cotton fabric with high tensile strength. Arrowhead then slit the tape with special custom-edged blades to enhance tear. We then wound the rolls under high tension to create the “hard unwind” desired by European customers.
Our raw material and equipment sourcing, as well as, our slitting/rewind equipment allowed us to bring this tape to the European market and drive success for the US distributor.
Increasing Delivery Efficiency
The customer faced increasing variability in product demand, sometimes needing significant supplements to existing orders, delivered within days.
We developed a "slip skid" loading approach to utilize the previously "unused up space" in shipping trucks, allowing a flexible increase in capacity.
Successfully maintained freight shipping while delivering significantly more on rush orders, being able to ship products with only days of advanced notice.
Adapting to Loss of Past Manufacturer
A new customer was closing the facility where their stretch tapes were manufactured. They consumed about 75% of their “resourcing” time prior to coming to us with suppliers that failed.
Our stretch tape fabric sourcing and stretch tape coating, logging and slitting capabilities, as well as, our quality controls and QC Lab capabilities, allowed them to qualify our raw materials and process and minimize "out of stock" time for multiple stretch tape brands.
The customer was able to adjust production without customers noticing supply disruptions.
Adapting Product Line With Color Variations
An existing tape line was acquired by a new owner, leading to an internal decision to expand the line from 2 tape colors to 7 and to expand their prewrap line from 1 color to 7 colors. The company sourced globally, “shopping the world” for the best supplier.
Arrowhead Athletics came into the bidding process with experience in both lines, the ability to deliver quickly, and to adapt production across product and color SKUs
Arrowhead Athletics raw material sourcing and rigid tape coating/slitting capabilities allowed them to launch their expanded line on-time.
Leading and Advising Customers In Evolving FDA Regulations
Disposable Medical Products
FDA regulations on language related to the use of latex in disposable products (such as tapes used in the medical setting) was changing, with possible impact on packaging and product display.
We assessed the new language for impact on customer products. Per the FDA, “Latex Free” is a misleading label claim. The scientifically accurate labeling should be “Not Made with Natural Rubber Latex.” Arrowhead immediately changed all relevant labels.
We shared the FDA recommendations with all customers, advised them to review their packaging and promotional materials and helped them take the necessary steps to avoid misleading labels claims, staying ahead of FDA regulatory expectations.
